Windows 8 Modern (Metro) App and Desktop Windows
With the release of Windows 8, Microsoft introduced the new style of application, Windows Store apps. Microsoft designed this application platform to optimize Windows app for touchscreen environments and hoping that these "Modern UI” style app will be more user friendly than current desktop applications. But it was not a successful launch as Microsoft accepted. Windows 8 user responds was not overwhelming about the new app platform because of its fragmented confusing user experience.
One of the biggest drawback of Windows 8 Modern apps, also known as Metro or RT apps is that it can only run either in a full-screen mode, or be snapped to the side of a screen. All Windows 8 Modern apps will use the full screen on your display regardless of how much of the screen they really need. As a result, that weather app, mail program or stock ticker is going to use the entirety of your computer display. There is no option to run a Windows 8 App Store application in desktop (Window) mode, the core essence of “Windows” experience. Its not even possible to launch a Windows 8 Modern app from desktop mode, user have to go to the start menu and launch them.
Run Windows 8 Modern (Metro) App in Resizable Desktop Windows

Create Windows 8 Modern App Desktop Shortcuts
ModernMix also allows you to create desktop shortcuts for Windows 8 modern apps. Just right click the Title bar of a Windowed modern application to get the desktop shortcuts making option. From ModernMix configuration you can choose to have applications launch differently depending on whether they are launched from the start screen or from desktop.
